The Forum of Yulin Culture and Tourism Industry Development held a conference last weekend where Winka was a guest speaker. Winka spoke about the Future of Urbanism, outlining some of our recent urban and architectural design studies.
The talk included the concept for a cultural neighborhood in Yulin, China, where our proposal creates distinct but related buildings connected by extensive landscapes, all inspired by the traditional Hutong villages of Chinese history. Winka also spoke about work being done for the Bottom-up design for downtown Bogota, Colombia, where a growing middle-class has created a new balance in society as well as in the city. A platform was developed where the people of Bogota help create their city by interacting in proposals made for their downtown in crowd sourcing, thus impacting design through real time feedback. In a recent study for Holon, Israel the proposed “Urban Connector” will translate the naturally developed sand pathways into an architectural language of bifurcating walkways. The proposal for Central Plaza, located in Al Sowwah Island, U.A.E. is focused on a fluid relationship between the podium and the tower, which extends at the bottom to create a "skirt" which shades public retail.
